Top 5 Books, April 2012

In no particular order whatsoever, here are my top 5 reads for the month of April:

1.) Red Dress Walking, by S.A. Jones

2.) Heathen Girls, by Luanne Jones

3.) The Tide Lords book one, The Immortal Prince, by Jennifer Fallon

4.) The Goddess Test, by Aimée Carter

5.) Switched, book one of the Trylle series, by Amanda Hocking

I’ve decided to do a monthly Top 5, so after the end of each month, I’ll compile a list of the 5 best books I read that month. I won’t add the pictures of the covers because you can find them with the previous corresponding reviews.

The Taint: Sorrow’s Child, Book One of The Taint Series, By Georgina Anne Taylor

“On the Isle of Muin, one of the thirteen scattered Meda Isles, Lillith, a young orphan and an indentured servant, is found guilty of witchcraft and is condemned to hang… Everyone and everything she’d known, all that she’d cared for, gone, lost to her in that one, horrible moment when her Taint had been revealed.”

First of all, I want to thank Goodreads for giving me the chance to read this. But mostly to thank Mrs. Georgina Anne Taylor for sending me the kindle edition before its release so that I may read and review it. I am greatly looking forward to being a beta reader for some of your other works. (:

Sorrow’s Child is the first in The Taint series and what a wonderful introduction might I add! Now I won’t put any spoilers in the review because I always try not to. But there might be a few almost spoilers, can’t help those.

Lillith was just a babe when she was orphaned, then she spent most of her next 14 years in a small village as a servant. Late one night, she discovers the Taint within herself, and that’s when the world she knows comes crashing down around her. Nothing will ever be the same again in this new life for Lillith as she journeys through challenges and finds out who she really is.

A story of bravery, intrigue, suspense, magic, coming of age, finding who you are, revenge, betrayal, and loyalty, Sorrow’s Child will keep you reading well into the dark of night.

A must read for people who like fairytales set in gothic worlds.

Happy Readings 🙂

Lemon cupcakes with Kiwi frosting

Oh yummmm!!!!!!! It looks delicious!!! 😀

Oh, Courtney

It’s finally starting to look like Spring! Southern California has been strangely gloomy and now that the sunshine is taking over… I thought a nice fruity, springy cupcake would be a nice treat. A sour fruit like lemon and a sweet fruit like kiwi would be the perfect combo, let’s get cookin’!
Aaah so refreshing

• 2 1/2 cups flour
• 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
• 4 large eggs
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• Lemon zest (2-3 lemons)
• 1/2 cup butter (softened)
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• Lemon juice (1-2 lemons worth)

Preheat the oven to 350F
Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and buttermilk together.
In a large bowl, put the sugar and lemon zest together. The best way to get the lemon flavor mixed into…

The Tide Lords Book Two, The Gods of Amyrantha, By Jennifer Fallon

The gods of Amyrantha is the second book in The Tide Lords series. Jennifer Fallon did a wonderful job with meeting my expectations and then soaring beyond them. Full of intrigue, longing, mysteries, twists, elations, and disappointments, this book will have you longing for the next one.

The book had me hooked on it to the point of it took me the better part of a week or so to read it because I wanted it to last. There are so many surprises I found in this book, along with some slow moments but I found there were few of those.

I cannot wait until the third book in this series is available at my local library because I will get it as soon as I see it.

The next book I will be reading is The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. It’ll be my first read of his so lets hope I picked a good one.

Happy joys in your Reading 🙂

Switched, Book One of the Trylle Series, By Amanda Hocking

“A couple things made that day stand out more than any other: it was my sixth birthday, and my mother was wielding a knife. Not a tiny steak knife, but some kind of massive butcher knife glinting in the light like in a bad horror movie. She definitely wanted to kill me.”

First paragraph and already off to a wonderful start. I got this series, well so far the first two while the third just got published and mailed to me, as a birthday gift and I am so glad I did. The Trylle books are a wonderful debut for Amanda Hocking, granted she already has six other books that are self-published.

This isn’t your normal Fae tale, its about trolls. Yes, you heard me, trolls! I think it was wonderful because you always hear about short and ugly little trolls, the Trylle are anything but that.

A wonderful new addition to the YA genre, this book will leave you rushing to the store to get the next book in the series.

Escape to a new world in Reading 🙂
